Hazen Area Dollars for Scholars, serving the community of Hazen, ND since 1991

In 1958, an Optometrist in Fall River, Mass., had a simple but profound idea-if everyone in his community gave just a dollar to an educational fund, it would be enough to help nearly every student in the community who wanted to attend college. Dr. Irving Fradkin called his plan "Dollars for Scholars," and it has expanded into what, today, is the nation's largest non-profit, private-sector scholarship and educational support organization. The purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to encourage post-secondary education assistance for local students through locally funding scholarships....one dollar at a time!

Hazen Area Dollars for Scholars® is a local chapter that has been awarding scholarships since 1991. Since that time, Hazen Area Dollars for Scholars scholarships have increased from two at $250 each to 42 scholarships totaling $50,825 awarded in 2024 and $848,365 total to date.
